OVERVIEW 

About the Programme

Business Computing is a course of study that covers both business studies and computing from a commercial or business perspective, that opens up a wide range of career opportunities in either IT or general management.

The Diploma in Business Computing program is designed to provide students with the necessary analytical, business and computing skills and knowledge to effectively develop and manage high quality business computing and information systems in organisations. This programme is also designed to meet the growing needs of the industry for a new category of Information Technology professionals in Business.

The course provides in-depth knowledge in the areas of business, information technology, and management, along with other necessary general skills for the for a complete graduate such as, cognitive skills, intellectual skills,  application of knowledge and understanding, communication skills, numeric skills, analytical and problem solving techniques, among other transferable skills.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission Requirements

To gain admission into the Diploma in Business Computing (DBC) course, a candidate must first of all satisfy the general requirements for admission into Billbrain Institute of Technology at a diploma level. In addition a candidate shall be eligible for admissions to the DBC programme on meeting any of the following minimum qualifications:-

 

Direct Entry

A person may be admitted to the diploma programme (entry into year one) via the diploma scheme if the person has:

Either: UACE with at least a principal pass and 1 subsidiary pass obtained in one sitting

OR: UCE/O’level with at least 3 credits obtained in one sitting, and/or a Certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.

Certificate Entry Scheme

A person may be admitted to the diploma programme if the person has:

  • A Certificate in IT of at least Class II – Credit Division or
  • A Certificate in an area related to IT from a recognized institution, and at least five (5) passes at O-level obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

Crediting the Certificate qualification, for those entering on the Diploma programme via the certificate entry scheme, will be done as follows to obtain the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for the year:

Diploma/Certificate Entry Scheme

A person may be admitted to the diploma programmed if the person has:

  1. A Diploma of at least Class II – Credit Division or
  2. a Certificate in an area related to Computing from a recognized institution, and at least five (5) passes at O-level obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

Crediting the Diploma qualification, for those entering on the degree programme via the Diploma entry scheme, will be done as follows to obtain the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for the year:

Unclassified Diploma will be evaluated from the transcripts.

Mature Age Entry Scheme

A person may be admitted to the diploma programmed via the mature entry scheme if the person has:

  1. Passed the mature age entry examinations appropriately administered by a National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) accredited institution.

A Diploma in Business Computing prepares you for a career/s stretching across many sectors and industries. Career options are varied. Common employers of Business Computing graduates include; IT consultancies and service providers. There are also opportunities within the IT departments of major organisations in the telecommunications, aerospace and defence, financial services, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, agricultural, public and third sectors.

 

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have a range of computing opportunities, too.

 

It is also possible to set up your own business providing IT services such as web design and consultancy.
