Accounting and finance is the life blood of any business. It is the area that facilitates all other business activities. Such activities include payment of salaries, purchase of materials, purchase of equipment and other capital expenditures. It is very important that an organization employs staff with appropriate accounting and Finance skills, in order to make the right entries for every transaction, post them to ledgers, prepare final statements of accounts, and make interpretations of these reports to management. The course also addresses finance related issues such as investment decisions, finance decisions, working capital management, and ability to test the financial health of a Business.

This program is mainly targeting secondary school leavers and certificate level holders, who seek either a higher-level qualification in order the enhance their employment prospects, or who need a strong foundation qualification in accounting and finance studies to prepare them for their Diploma, and subsequently, their University studies in Accounting, Finance, Business and Management programmes.

CAREER PATHS

Students who undertake this program will have Accounting and Financial Services employment opportunities, ranging from banking and sales positions, financial advisers and analyst positions. Typically, the graduates can work in commercial banks, microfinance and other non-bank financial institutions, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), business enterprises and establishments, among other sectors with need for accounting and financial service professionals to account and manage their portfolios and statements and also to audit and regulate financial operations and performance.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Option A

The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 credits obtained at the same sitting, or it’s equivalent.

Option B

A Certificate from a recognized institution of learning within the same, or in a related field.
