Introduction
This programme provides an avenue to those already engaged in the IT-sector without formal diploma qualifications in IT to join the DIT Programme through either direct or Major Certificate schemes. It provides firm foundation in avenues related to computer networks, data management, systems and mobile application development among others. DIT is open to all prospective students and designed to enable its prospective students to undertake training in Information Technology (IT).

Programme Rationale
Information Technology is a critical component of life today, and a vital component in communications that support modern society. New applications of information technology are constantly appearing; different applications are linked together forming a complex computing environment. There is now an urgent demand for highly skilled Information Technology professionals with diverse specializations including business and management processes, the design and development of software systems. This demand is forecast to increase both in Uganda and world over. The Diploma in Information Technology brings on board new approaches to teaching of Information Technology, combining solid engineering practices with knowledge of management and business processes.
Course Objectives
The objectives of the Diploma in Information Technology Programme are to:
- Increase demand for Information Technology training and professionals.
- Enhance well facilitated consultancy services in Information Technology
- Formulate a technological enabled pool of ICT Research professionals and bodies.
- Make appropriate business decisions for ICT investments.
- Enhance ICT innovations for development.

On completion of the programme, the students should be able to;-
- Address the increasing demand for Information Technology training and professionals.
- Get involved in consultancy services in Information Technology

Career Prospects
The majority will take up operational positions in Information and Communication Technology (computing and ICT-based) sectors, and other positions such as Software Developers, Web-Programmers, Systems  &  Network  Administrators, Information Technology Officers, Data Analysts, IT Project Assistants, and IT Trainers.
Programme duration.
The diploma programme shall cover a minimum of   two (2) years of four semesters and not exceeding a maximum of four (4) years.
Admission into this course can be through any of the four avenues mentioned below:
- Direct entry
- Certificate holders scheme
- Higher Education Certificate
- Professional qualifications
- Entrance admission examination
For admission to any diploma course under
Direct Entry Scheme, a candidate must have:
- Obtained at least one (1) advanced level principal pass and two (2) subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.A.C.E) examinations. Or Qualification equivalent to UACE.
- Sat the UCE examination (equivalent) and obtained at least 5 passes.
Certificate Holder’s Scheme, a candidate must hold:
- A Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) and a certificate in Business Management or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- A two year certificate in Business Management, or a two year certificate in any field of study obtained from a recognized institution.
- A one year Higher Education Certificate accredited by NCHE
Professional Qualifications.
- The applicant should have passed at least stage/level two (2), of the professional qualifications from a recognized institution or its equivalent, provided this is passing by examination and recognized in Uganda by the National Council of Higher Education.
